Carter blamed Russia for the actions of Bashar al-Assad
Russia is responsible for the actions of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his inability so far to agree on a cease-fire in 5-year-old conflict in his country, said the U.S. Secretary of defense ash Carter.
"He could use his influence to help put an end to this civil war," Carter said in an interview in London. "They are responsible for the consequences that they could have avoided."
Carter said the attack on Tuesday in Eastern Aleppo, allegedly involving barrels of chlorine gas thrown by the rebels in the city, as a sign that "things are definitely not moving in the right direction." Medical group and activists said that the hospital had sent more than 100 people.
Expressing further skepticism of Russia, Carter said that while "We have hopes and experience shows that we are not close to that point", where Moscow will change their actions. Relations between the two U.S. allies fighting ISIS in Syria - Turkey and the Syrian Kurds - he acknowledged that they "did not get along."
But the Secretary said that they play a key role in the fight against ISIS and what the United States intends to "keep our commitments" for both of them. "We are working with both sides, and we are trying to remove the tension," Carter said.
Each party must have information about the whereabouts of the other. You need to make sure that they did not face each other, while fighting with ISIL terrorists.
