In Germany, the terrorist blew himself up during a music festival
In Germany the Ansbach attack occurred, according to the Minister of internal Affairs of the region. The bomber died in the explosion.
27-year-old citizen of Syria detonated an explosive device outside the music festival, which took place at this time in the city. Due to the lack of a ticket, the terrorist was unable to enter inside, said Bavarian interior Minister Joachim Herrmann in a press conference early Monday morning. Twelve people were injured.
The man who is still not named, stood near the entrance of the festival a short period, before he blew himself up. Music festival and its surrounding area were evacuated.
Authorities say that the suicide bomber had previously applied for asylum in Germany but his application was rejected. He was also known to police in Ansbach for previous crimes. German media reported that he had previously tried to commit suicide. Herrmann said his backpack contained screws and nails, obviously trying to inflict more damage.
Officially, this attack is not confirmed as terrorism, he said, but there are clear signs of what could be. Violence haunts Germany in several places lately. On Sunday, a man killed a woman with a machete in Reutlingen. 21-year-old Syrian seeking asylum, came to Germany a year ago, according to the police he was known to police for larceny and assault. Police reported that the woman was 45 years old and she was from Poland.
On Friday, a man in Munich staged a shooting in a busy shopping district before killing himself, killing nine people, authorities said. Authorities have not found a link to a terrorist group. Police say he may have been planning an attack a year ago.
