In the United States for the first time in 17 years, executed two men
In Arkansas Monday night for the first time since 2000, executed 2 men. Jack Harold Jones and Marcel Wayne Williams was among eight inmates scheduled for execution in April, before the deadline for delivery of state lethal injection drug.
Jones was introduced lethal injection at 7:06 PM on Monday (8:06 p.m. Eastern time), he was declared dead 14 minutes. Williams was appointed the injection at 10:16 PM (11:16 p.m. Eastern time), he was declared dead in 17 minutes.
Before the start of the execution of Williams, a judge of the Federal district court issued a temporary ban on the basis of the requirements of Williams's lawyers that Jones ' death was "painful and inhumane." The government called the claims "completely unfounded", and a Federal judge lifted a temporary ban. These lethal injection became the first in the United States since Texas August 9, 2000, death sentence, Brian Roberson and Oliver Cruz, in accordance with Information center the death penalty.
The last double execution in Arkansas took place on 8 September 1999, according to the Department of corrections. Jones was convicted in 1996 for rape and murder of Mary Phillips in the accounting Department, where she worked as an accountant.
