Sadie Frost self-harmed suffering from post-natal depression
The actress-and-fashion designer - who has 19-year-old Finlay from her marriage to Gary Kemp and Rafferty, 14, nine-year-old Iris and seven-year-old Rudy with second husband Jude Law - admits her condition after giving birth to her two youngest children was so severe, she was left feeling "empty" and had no recollection of cutting herself.
Describing one of her lowest points, when she turned to self harm, she said: "I watched my hand slowly pick up a pair of scissors. It was as if I was being sucked down lower into the chair and the scissors seemed to be drawn to my arm.
"I appeared to have cut myself. Blood dripped down my arms. There was no sense of panic within me - I just felt empty."
The 45-year-old beauty revealed that fear about her condition put too much pressure on her marriage to Jude Law.
She wrote in her new autobiography `Crazy Days`: "The more I worried about my condition, the more self-obsessed I became and the less attention I gave to Jude. Back in London, we were busy with the children and our careers. Jude was up for lots more roles and I was still feeling low, struggling to hold the relationship together, feeling threatened."
And Sadie explained that she finally knew her marriage to the `Sherlock Holmes` actor was over after a holiday in Thailand.
Sadie, who left Gary for Jude, said: "Right away I knew something was wrong. I knew it was over, the way he looked at me. I was underweight, depressed and scared.
"I asked him if he loved me but he didn`t need to reply - I knew the answer. The moment had arrived and I knew the relationship with the man I loved was over."
Sadie and Jude divorced in 2003, six years after they married.
