Atlantic Ocean expects 2 more tropical hurricanes
Till the end of October at least 2 tropical hurricanes, one of which will be powerful, will be born in Atlantic ocean. This warning was made by 2 scientists from Colorado University on Tuesday.
William Gray and Philip Klozbah insist on 15% possibility that powerful hurricane will reach American coast. By words of scientists this is "a rather big percent" because usually this characteristic doesn?t exceed 6% level.
"Unfortunately, this season is very active and we shouldn?t expect that it will end calmly", noted Gray. Scientists suppose that there will be another storm on USA territory is 49% while usually during this time of a year it doesn?t exceed 29. "At least it used to be this way from 1950 to 2000".
Hurricane season in Atlantic ocean starts on June 1 and finishes on November 30. This year a high activity is observed. There were 9 hurricanes till the end of September, 5 of which were very strong. According to the statistics, only 5.9 hurricanes occur during season, 2.3 of which are powerful.
This year 3 powerful hurricanes - "Dennis", "Catherine", "Rita" - reached USA territory while less powerful hurricane "Ofelia" just touched American coast.
As Gray and Klozbah noticed this high activity of hurricane season is due to high temperature above Atlantic ocean surface and also to moisture content in lower and middle layers of atmosphere. But scientists don?t blame "hothouse effect" for hurricane activity.
