Anniversary of Maidan Prepares Political Surprise?
The anniversary of "orange revolution" is coming. The country believed recently that indivisible "orange team" and hundreds of thousand Ukrainians would come on Maidan, which made Ukraine the centre of events of the world scale a year ago.
Nobody could presuppose a year ago that situation would change greatly now. The main cause is a rift in "orange team", which was standing shoulder to shoulder yesterday, and which broke to the two camps today.
However, rift is not the cause for abolishment of the holiday. That is why organizers prepare for this event: the President?s team will arrange "orange" holiday on a noble scale, re-creating all the events of "revolutionary Maidan" on November, 20th
However, the scenario and the names of participants of the event are not known yet. The appearance of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko and ex-Prime-Minister Yulia Timoshenko is expected to be at the scene of Maidan on November, 20th. Yulia Vladimirovna estimates positively the initiative to gather people on Maidan at the anniversary of "orange" revolution. She supposes that it is necessary to invite people not for the holding of revolution, but for making a report about the done work for the nation.
There is no answer whether ex-Prime-Minister will be on Maidan. Timoshenko and her fellows-in-arms wait for the scenario which will be suggested for them by forces. No one can exclude that two Maidans can appear at the one and the same day in Kiev.
The announcements of fellows-in-arms of Yulia Vladimirovna make to think about it. In particular, it is concerned with one of the warlords on Maidan Aleksandr Turchinov. He suggests not to make a political show during the anniversary of "orange" revolution, but to communicate with people.
Nikolay Tomenko, chief "Maydan D-J", holds the same opinion. He is deeply convinced that the government should not celebrate the anniversary of the revolution, but report on its achievements; not perform before the citizens, but listen to them.
Moreover, Mr. Tomenko has cast away practically all the ideas of the activists in charge of carrying out the action. He has stated repeatedly, "Our team will be present at Maydan with the purpose to present the Ukrainians with the report on our achievements and just talk and listen to the people who have brought the revolution into effect".
At the same time, one may be 100% sure that the chairman of Verkhovna Rada Vladimir Litvin will not be present at the stage to commemorate the anniversary. It is well-known, Mr. Litvin has played decisive role in carrying out the revolutionary events. And yesterday the VR spokesman confirmed once again his statement, made before, that he would not participate in the celebration of the anniversary.
Mr. Litvin, referring to the past, reminded that he had not been present at Maydan during the course of "orange revolution" and yielded to no persuasion to deliver his speech before the thousands of people at Maydan, quite the contrary, his performance had been addressed exclusively to the parliamentarians during VR sessions and sittings, he had just fulfilled his duties and managed not to lose his credit. Yet, Mr. Litvin considers that the history will put everything on their places.
It is evident, the anniversary of the "orange revolution" and the presidential elections will contribute to the score of the individuals who have appealed to the citizens to come to Maydan, however the people?s altitude towards them has become polarized nowadays.
Despite all the controversies of the "orange revolution", we realize, that time it was the only way to settle down the public conflict between people and government. Whether Maydan remain the key-stone of the current political life of Ukraine, we will witness in a couple of weeks.
