Gypsies disliked opera about Budulai
On the stage of Rostov musical theatre started opera "New return of Budulai". The events take place at present days and this is absolutely another story than told in novel of writer Anatoly Kalinin "Gypsy". Modern staging kept for audience leading characters Klavdia, Ivan, Nastya and their complicated relationships with Budalai.
In Kalinin version of novel Gypsies were selling lids for cans. At modern version gypsy Tamila sales drugs and draws children in this business.
Pavel Limansky expressed opinion of all Rostov Gypsies: performance is bad because rouses national dissension and shows Gypsies from bad side.
Rostov composer Leonid Klinchev composed music and libretto to novel "Gypsy" many years ago. St. Petersburg director Yurii Aleksandrov was invited to stage performance. It was said that Anatoly Kalinin - the author of novel - liked the staging. Nobody expected a scandal.
Letters with demands to prohibit performance were sent to president Putin and governor of region Chuba. Limansky is ready to appeal to court.
