Jason Bateman: wife helped turn my life around
The `Arrested Development` star used to be a heavy drinker and wild partygoer but admits all that changed when he met Amanda Anka as he knew he could no longer behave like that.
He said: "Meeting my wife Amanda was the best thing that could ever have happened to me. She wasn`t going to let me screw around my life any more, so I stopped drinking and started behaving like a decent human being. Then I got very, very lucky when `Arrested Development` came along. That series saved my career - it gave me back my credibility I used to have when I was much younger and before people gave up on me as a party guy in Hollywood. It was just enough to make me ambitious again."
Jason, 42, and Amanda are currently expecting their second daughter together and the actor credits their happy union with being friends first.
He told Britain`s OK! magazine: "We became friends and that grew into something deeper and our marriage has been incredibly solid, loving and caring ever since. What I learned from going out with lots of women was that you need to find a partner in life, someone who is going to care for you more than you maybe care about yourself. Women can often be your true best friends and, once you get past the fixation of sleeping with them, you can enjoy their company so much more. I married the woman who was not only a friend but someone I cared about more than I could ever have imagined. My instincts were right."
