Another match-fixing scandal rocks Italy
Former Italy football captain Cristiano Doni has been arrested along with 16 other people as part of an ongoing investigation into match fixing.
The inquiry, dubbed "the Last Bet", is focusing on several matches in Serie B over the past two seasons, and three of the games involve Doni`s former club Atalanta.
Doni was arrested on suspicion of destroying evidence although he denies any wrongdoing.
He was banned for three-and-a-half years earlier this year following an investigation by the Italian Football Federation. That also resulted in Atalanta - who`d just been promoted to Serie A - receiving a six point penalty.
Under this latest probe, Three Serie A matches from last season are also under investigation. They are Brescia`s home games against Bari and Lecce and Napoli`s meeting with Sampdoria.
The latest incident saw a Gubbio player offered 200,000 euros to affect the outcome of a cup game with Cesena in November. Prosecutors say those arrested have links to criminal gangs in Singapore and Eastern Europe.
