Tourists caught stealing Roman artefacts
Tourists who have run out of original souvenir ideas have been caught with 2000 year old Roman cobblestones.
ґDuring the last six months security officers at Rome`s two main airports have detected a selection of these objects. Much to everybody`s surprise, the square stones were pulled from a number of passengers` hand luggage.
"Those primarily responsible are northern Europeans who have simply picked up a loose cobble stone or piece of mosaic they have found while wandering around Rome," Police Chief Antonio Del Greco is quoted as saying.
"I should warn all tourists that the city`s rich heritage should not be touched. What these people do by stealing these items is showing their ignorance," the Superintendent of Culture for Rome City Council, Umberto Broccoli, added.
