Scotland battered by high winds
Winds of up to 80mph have been sweeping across the country. The Met Office said the Clyde and Forth valleys were particularly at risk, and people living there should not venture out unless absolutely necessary.
The Erskine Bridge and the Skye Bridge were closed to all vehicles and there were restrictions on the Forth, Tay and Kessock bridges.
Forecasters warned winds could reach severe gale force, with the possibility of structural damage to buildings.
BBC Scotland forecaster Gail McGrane said: "Gale to severe gale force winds will be widespread.
"There will be winds gusting 60mph in many places, with up to 80mph through the central lowlands."
Heavy showers were also expected throughout the night.
