Ukraine to repair defective troop transport
Ukrainian specialists are going to repair 38 defective BMP-2 which were purchased by Georgia.
"Negotiations with that question are being carried, said a head of general staff of Georgian armed forces Levan Nikoleishvili. - The materiel is not going to be taken out to Ukraine but to be repaired in Georgia."
Georgia bought 40 BMP-2s from Ukraine on September 2004. It turned out that almost all vehicles were nonserviceable during Georgian armoured forces exercises that were being held in summer of 2005.
Three high-ranking official of Georgian Department of Defense were arrested during investigation of that case. Georgian president?s adviser brigadier general Vakhtang Kapanadze who was working as a head of general staff of Georgian Department of Defense, resigned office.
