Benzene concentration not to exceed norm as water reaches Habarovsk
According to estimates of Russian hydremeteorological service, concentration of benzyl compounds will not exceed values, allowable by Russian standards, as polluted waters reaches Habarovsk. This was announced by the head of Far East administration of hydrometeorology and environmental monitoring Alexander Gavrilov.
By his words, monitoring revealed that toxic spot moves along Sungari slower than water flow.
"According to forecast of our experts, based on information from Chinese People`s Republic, chemicals will reach Amur not earlier than December 9-11, and spot is expected in Habarovsk on December 13-15", - said Gavrilov.
Every day experts make 15-20 tests at certain points in Amur before Habarovsk. At present moment there is no exciding of benzene and nitrobenzene contents over maximum allowable concentration registered. Concentration of petroleum compounds and phenols in water, provided to population, is also lower than standards.
Chemical pollution of Amur`s confluent - Sungari river - occurred as a result of accident at one of Chinese chemical plants on November 13. According to data of Ministry of Nature, spread of "polluted water front" exceeds 110 kilometers.
