Aslan Abashidze is searched by police
City court of Batumi has granted a request by General Office of Public Prosecutor of Georgia and circulated of the former leader of Adjaria Aslan Abashidze. Abashidze?s lawyer Shalva Shavgulidze informed about that.
"Aslan Abashidze had the inviolability guaranteed by Georgian president. After an application of General Office of Public Prosecutor it turned to mere words", - said the lawyer.
According to the lawyer "either General Office of Public Prosecutor does not care straw the president?s promises, or the president himself changed his point of view". "In both cases that is unworthy behavior from the direction of country leaders", - said Shavgulidze.
Georgian General Office of Public Prosecutor brings charges against the former leader of Adjarian autonomy by several items of Georgian criminal code - abuse of official standing, exceeding his official commission, embezzlement of private and state property. The matter concerns embezzlement of 98 m of lari ($47 m, explosion of bridges on the river Choloki), creation of illegal armed formations, RIA "Novosti" reported.
After Abashidze?s retirement he came to Moscow. Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov still gives support to the former leader of Adjaria. He "had to leave his historical homeland under pressure of the new Georgian government".
The capital mayor thinks "Abashidze was running the real danger in Adjaria".
