New greenhouse-rotunda with tropical butterflies opened in Moscow Zoo
A reconstruction of winter greenhouse-rotunda in "Indonesian Fauna" is over in Moscow Zoo. It lasted for more than a year.
"Now there is first in Russian history unique exhibition of tropical butterflies; Zoo experts created all condition for their life in the course of year. Special equipment keeps micro climate - high temperature (+ 26-28 Celsius degrees) and relative air humidity (70-80%). As in real tropical forest there is a rain once in a day. Powerful floodlights create necessary illumination", - told Zoo representative.
"100-150 of butterfly specimens of different tropical sorts can fly simultaneously in rotunda. There more than 10 kinds of butterflies presented in exhibition. The majority of butterflies, especially huge black ones with white and red spots on back wings Rumyancev sailors and sky blue with metallic tint morphs, eat honey solution and sweet fruits placed in special feeding racks.
"There is a special transparent box, which is kept under constant temperature, where one can observe the process of butterfly appearance from chrysalis".
