China chooses governmental emblem
Ginkgo bilob tree can become an international emblem of China.
To make relic tree of Mesozoic period an emblem of country voted 99% of questioned Chinese. More than 1.7 millions of people took part in this survey. A final decision must be taken by parliament. Ginkgo bilob has competitors in face of pine-tree, cypress, poplar and pussy-willow.
Ginkgo bilob tree reaches 40 meters in height and can be found only in mountain forests of eastern China. In scientist opinion it appeared 270 millions years ago. It is considered in China that its leaves possess healing qualities. For 1500 years a tree was planted in religious places of China and other Asian countries, basically near buddhistic temples.
