"Zenith" to pay policemen for attacks of fans
Football club "Zenith" suggested financial aid to policemen, who were injured during night disorders, initiated by fans, in the center of St. Petersburg.
Information was confirmed by general director of club Ilya Cherkasov. By his words, it is a moral imperative of the club but this step was not meant to receive publicity. "As far as we know, several policemen were injured while they were protecting fans from each other", - noted Cherkasov.
About 300 fans of football club "Zenith" started a fight in center of St. Petersburg at night of December 19. 25-th anniversary of "Neva front" - largest union of "Zenith" fans - was celebrated in popular club "Port". At midnight massive fight has started between fans by unknown reason.
Arrived police unit and emergency plat soldiers blockaded the epicenter of disorders near Mariinsky palace, close to Isaakievskaya square. Workers of law machinery used weapon to stop the fight: there were several shots in the air.
As a result of fight, about 50 people were detained, the majority was released soon. All were accused of administrative infringing activity. Criminal proceedings according to article "use of violence towards representative of authority" were instituted against several people.
During disorders about 10 people were injured - 6 policemen and 4 fans. 3 police cars were damaged. Moreover, shooting group of "Vesti" program was attacked - hooligans tried to take the video camera away.
