Construction of Ice palace in Petersburg to start next month
This was announced by creative director of art-center "Ice studio" Svetlana Mikheeva.
"Ice palace will open on February 6. This is a historical date - this day Anna Ioannovna arranged wedding for man of motley in ice palace in 1740", - said Svetlana Mikheeva. By her words, ice front garden with ice trees, churches, cannons and operating ice bath-house will be placed at Palace square.
Reconstruction of famous Ice house of Anna Ioannovna is the most grand "ice" project in Russia. The building has been constructed by the Empress in 1740 for carnival with "amusing wedding, therefore it has been decided that wedding palace will be placed in the reconstructed house. The palace will be situated between Alexander column and the Admiralty. 6 thousands of ice blocks with sizes meter by meter are needed for construction. It is not recommended to build large constructions on main square of Petersburg. Therefore, by words of Svetlana Mikheeva, all ice constructions will stand in the open air and not in tents. Ice blocks for construction will be delivered from Ladoga lake, and decorations will be developed by craftsmen during the work. Moreover, International contest of ice sculpture will take place in Petersburg for first time.
