Ice sculpture of Big Ben unveiled in Moscow
Ice sculpture of London`s Big Ben is unveiled in Pushkin Square, Moscow. It is 6 meters high, illuminating lamp inside it. The ice for Moscow Big Ben is taken from Grebnoy canal in Krylatskoye. Totally the sculptors have worked a week to craft the tower.
Simultaneously, a huge ice sculpture of Russia`s St Basil`s Cathedral has been unveiled in London, 3,5 meters high. It took 12 tons of ice, which was produced in a giant freezer in Horsmonden, Kent, as the average monthly temperature in January is above + 5oC.
At Big Ben unveiling ceremony deputy Moscow Mayor Josef Ordjonikidzesaid, that the idea of crafting ice Big Ben in Russian capital and ice copy of Russia`s St Basil`s Cathedral appeared to month ago, at the business meeting with London Mayor Ken Livingstone, Moscow Mayor in his turn suggested unveiling the sculptures ahead of a Russian Festival to celebrate Russia`s Old New Year.
London Mayor Ken Livingstone noted, that ice sculpture of Russia`s St Basil`s Cathedral unveiling in London would help Londoners and visitors to feel traditions of Russian winter.
