Yalta lighthouse captured for overhaul
Ukrainian side explained capture of Yalta house by necessity of its overhaul.
As the source in Sevastopol branch of Ukrainian State enterprise "Goshydrographia" informed, in nearest future captured lighthouse "will undergo overhaul and will be equipped by modern machinery, meeting all international standards. This measure will provide safe shipping in this region".
Source emphasized that there were no repair works at Yalta lighthouse for more than 40 years. As a result "many subsidiary devices, which should provide uninterrupted work of the object, are completely out of action". Moreover, it was said that lightning and power sources of lighthouse became obsolete and don`t meet modern requirements".
In opinion of "Goshydrographia" representative, in case Yalta lighthouse was not taken under service of Sevastopol experts, "inevitable malfunctions of lighthouse could lead to unpredictable consequences for shipping".
As a reminder, on January 13 Ukrainian authorities occupied Yalta lighthouse, which was operated by Russian side. Saturday negotiations between command-in-chief of Russian Black Sea Fleet Alexander Tatarinov and head of Yalta port about return of captured lighthouse didn`t produce effect. The head of Yalta port refused to recognize fact of object rent by Black Sea Fleet. Representatives of Russian side insist that rent of lighthouse is matter of record.
