Georgia to import Iranian gas
Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Georgia negotiates about import of Iranian gas to the republic.
As it was informed earlier, supply of Russian gas to Georgia and Armenia was shut down on Sunday morning because of explosions at gas-main pipelines. The causes of explosions have not been established yet, Georgian ministry waits for expert conclusion about causes and scales of the breakdown.
As representatives of ministry informed, "if breakdown is serious and long time is needed for its liquidation, Georgia will start Iranian gas import through Azerbaijan territory".
Georgia will purchase Iranian gas by price of $120 per thousand cubic meters. By estimate of experts, it will take 3 days to start import from Iran.
Earlier Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili announced that Georgia has alternative to Russian gas.
"The gas costs only $10 more than Russian one but we will have guarantee in case of problems with Russian gas supplies", - announced Saakashvili during session of Energy Council on January 18.
Meanwhile, general director of "Caucasustransgas" Vasily Zinoviev announced that restoration of "North Caucasus-Transcaucasia" pipeline will take about 100 hours (about 4 days). By Zinoviev`s words, equipment for work at mountain heights is re-deployed to the area of pipeline damage. "We set up camp, where our experts will live", - said general director of "Caucasustransgas".
Amount of damage from breakdown and its causes are being established. "We started investigation, reported to appropriate federal organs. This can be a human-caused breakdown or a terrorist action", - informed Zinoviev.
