Senators advocate for removal of graves from Red Square to special cemetery
Several senators have suggested to remove remains of Lenin, Stalin and other historical personalities of Soviet period from Red Square to special memorial cemetery.
"There is no place for necropolis in Moscow. The remains of Lenin and Stalin should be transferred", - said the head of constitutional legislative Council of Federation Yuri Sharandin.
By his words, "attitude to several historical personalities changes with time and there are figures, whose negative influence on Russian history is out of question".
Meanwhile ex-premier of USSR, current senator Nikolai Ryzhkov supposes that realization of such suggestions will split the society. "Bearing-out of Lenin`s body and Stalin`s remains from Red Square will lead to split in the society and good leader should think about the unity of society above all", - said Ryzhkov.
"Lenin and Stalin are our history, they are people of the epoch. We should not estimate the history from position of modern society but should respect it", - emphasized Ryzhkov.
Earlier this week first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin was perplexed that political figures of Lenin and Stalin carry authority among many people in Russia.
"One should read historical documents and realize the losses of the country at this period. Millions of people died because of barbarity and inhumanity of these politicians. It is a riddle why Stalin still presents in rating of outstanding politicians and Lenin is in Mausoleum on Red Square", - said Yeltsin.
