XX Winter Olympic Games declared closed
XX Winter Olympic Games in Turin, which lasted from February 10 to February 26, are closed.
This was declared by president of International Olympic Committee Jack Rogge at solemn ceremony on "Olympico stadium".
Medalists of marathon skiing race were awarded during colorful closing performance. It should be mentioned that Russian Evgeni Dementiev won silver in the marathon. Then a parade of standard bearers with figure-skater Eygeni Plushenko representing our country and of all sportsmen took place.
Rogge has also awarded the president of Olympic organization committee in Turin Valentino Kastellani with Olympic order. Rogge thanked Italy for successful holding of the Olympic Games and appealed to sportsmen "for further contribution to sport".
Rogge declared Games-2006 closed and appealed audience to direct eyes at Olympiad-2010, which will be held in Vancouver. A Canadian anthem was heard afterwards and a ceremony of Olympic flag transfer from Turin mayor Serge Kyamparino to Vancouver mayor Sam Sallivan took place.
