45 years pass since patriarch Aleksy II professed
45 years passed since the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Aleksy II was professed.
This occurred in Troitsky cathedral of the Troice -Sergieva monastery. Future celebrant of Russian church at that time was archpriest of united Tartu -Vilyandiskogo deanery of Tallin diocese, and after only five months, 14 August 1961, it was designated to celibate priest Aleksy to be bishop Tallinskiy and Estonskiy with the commission to his temporary control Riga diocese.
According to orthodox tradition, only monk can accept Episcopal dignity - the highest in the church hierarchy. The most worthy persons are chose for this. The patriarch is elected from the number of bishops.
