Moskvin-Tarkhanov: Moscow houses may "float"
Some Moscow houses foundations may "float" this spring, the chairman of Moscow Duma commission for perspective development and municipal engineering Mikhail Moskvin-Tarkhanov reported at the press-conference on Monday.
"It is especially urgent problem for the so-called heavy houses, built in Stalin period, and monumental buildings", noted the Moscow deputy. He noted the need of development and realization of the program of measures, directed to strengthening the foundations of such houses.
The parliamentarian also noted that there is the unbalance between the volumes of water falling on the soil and evaporating from it in Moscow.
"Substantial part of the soil in Moscow is covered with asphalt and constructions, which prevents moisture evaporation. This has already led to the fact that the water-bearing barrier rises for 10 centimeters yearly, and subterranean waters wash out solid rocks from the soil, a thus the buildings appear to stand actually on the water", he explained.
