The analyst USA: punishment will exacerbate differences in Ukraine
Punishment of the EU and the US against Russia and possible countermeasures of the Russian capital will only exacerbate differences in Ukraine, says the Executive Director of the Washington Advisory Centre national interests Paul Saunders.
The U.S. and EU on the last working day of the week announced increased penalties against financial, defense and energy sectors of Russia's economy, accusing Moscow of interfering in Ukraine. Russia denies these charges, penalties calls unconstructive and makes a promise that they will not remain without a response.
" If Russia will retaliate in response to punishment, as proposed in the capital of Russia, it will only exacerbate the discussion on Ukraine between the US, Europe and Russia. However, Washington, Brussels and European capitals do not want the dialogue has failed, or worse, to renewed large-scale fighting, " said Saunders.
" So the question is, does Russia want to go on to further deterioration of relations with the West, to demonstrate that it is ready to respond to fresh penalties and to protect the ability of the militia to conduct dialogues with stronger positions, " added the analyst.
Moscow has stated many times that is not a party to domestic conflict. According to Saunders, USA, not looking statements capital of Russia, believe that the Russian Federation is helping the militia, and for this reason, try using punishment to ensure that Russia affected militias and achieved their participation in the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. In addition, he believes that North America is trying to strengthen the position of Kiev in negotiations on a number of issues with Russia.
" U.S. officials May be trying to strengthen the weak position of Kiev in the negotiations, " he finished Saunders.
