"Formula-1" bolide to be driven by woman
New "Formul-1" team Squadra Toro Rosso invited British Catherine Ledge on driving tests.
25-year old native of Northampton will become first woman in history of "royal" races from 1991 who will participate in full race season. Squadra Toro Rosso tests are planned on end of November in Italian Vallelung.
Last time woman tried the power of "Formula-1" car in 1991. Then a car was driven by Italian Joanna Amati. Ledge impressed race experts in 2000 when became the first woman to win pole-position in one of Britich "Formula Ford" races.
Until 2004 she raced in Great Britain and in 2004 went to USA where participated in Northern American "Formula Renault". She persuaded PKV head of Toyota Atlantic Championship series Kevin Kalkhoven to take her to the team and justified all hopes.
Catherine Ledge one 2 races during season including her first race in new Long-Beach series. It should be mentioned that she started from 17-th place in that race and managed to win.
Next year Ledge plans to participate in Toyota Atlantic Championship again and hope to sign contract with one of more prestige Champ Car series in 2007.
