Biography Chö?nier, Andrö? Marie (Chnier Andr Marie)
(1762-1794) Born October 30, 1762 in Istanbul in the family of French diplomat. He was educated in Paris, where his mother was a salon which was visited by many writers, scientists and artists. Initially, Chenier was committed to the ideas of the revolution, but later blamed the extreme, and published articles against the Jacobins bold. He dedicated an ode to Charlotte Corday, assassin of Jean-Paul Marat, K. Malesherbes helped in the preparation of the protection of Louis XVI. Chö?nier was arrested on March 7, 1794, and guillotined July 25, 1794. In prison, Chö?nier wrote iambic (Iambes), a masterpiece of political invective, and an ode to young Captive (La jeune captive). His poetic heritage have been collected and published only in 1819. It includes the lyric cycles Bukoliki (Bucoliques), Elegy (lgies), Epistles (Eptres), Ode (Odes), Hymns (Hymnes), didactic poems, such as invention (L'Invention).
