Ivanov.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts (1817 - 1828).
In 1830 the means of Society for the Promotion of artists was sent to Italy as a pensioner. Visited Austria and Germany. Since 1831 he lived in Rome. In 1831-1834 completed painting 'Apollo, Hyacinth and Cypress'.
In 1836 received the title of academician.
By 1833 is the emergence of design pattern 'Coming of the Messiah' ( 'The Appearance of Christ to the people'), work on which the artist began only in 1837. During the work on a painting executed a large number of full-scale images for the characters of composition, and landscape sketches in the vicinity of Rome and Southern Italy. Since 1848, worked on 'Biblical sketches'. In 1858 he returned to St. Petersburg.
