born September 2, 1930 in Leningrad. During the Great Patriotic War together with his family was evacuated to Siberia. After returning to his hometown, he began studying music, a year later entered the School of Music named after Rimsky-Korsakov. In 1954 Petrov
graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory, was a disciple of OA Evlakhov. While still a student at the conservatory he wrote as a "serious" music, and musical numbers to the skit and song. In 1958 Petrov
wrote the ballet "The Coast of Hope", staged at the Kirov Theater Igor Belsky, later he went to the scenes of Moscow, Kishinev, Tallinn, Odessa. In subsequent years he created such vivid musical works, . the opera "Peter I" (1974), . vocal-choreographic symphony "Pushkin" (1979), . opera extravaganza "Mayakovsky begins" (1983), . as well as the ballets "The Creation" (1968), .
