Biography Thomas Mayne Reid (Thomas Mayne Reid)
Born in Ireland, the family priest. Abandoning the spiritual career, in 1840 he emigrated to America. Having tried many professions, has traveled across the country, since 1846 professionally engaged in journalism. Took part in the US-Mexican War on the side of the United States, distinguished himself in several battles, was promoted to captain. In 1949 he left for Europe, to Hungary to fight in rebel ranks. But by the time of arrival on the mainland, has suppressed the uprising, and Mayne Reid settles in London. In the mid-50's, he had the author of popular novels, wrote a year for two or three books, as well as scientific and educational works. Among the best novels include "The Headless Horseman", "Maron", "Osceola, Seminole Chief", etc.. After the defeat of the slave army of the South again moved across the ocean and settled in New York, where he founded the magazine "Next". By shifting the severe disease and difficult recovery, in 1870, finally returned to England. Writer died in 1883.
