Born in 1973. He studied at the music school named. Rimsky-Korsakov (Saint Petersburg). At age 16, became the winner of the contest of young performers Poltava (Ukraine). Koptev was a member of the orchestra of St. Petersburg Conservatory.

Alex Koptev is part of the Kirov Theater Orchestra, whose conductor is Valery Gergiev. As part of the orchestra he recorded Shostakovich's Symphony N 8, as well as numerous operas, often on tour (Italy, Belgium, Holland, USA, Denmark, France, Germany and Japan).
In 1995. the International Music Program
Koptev was sent to the School of the Arts North Carolina. Here, he won first place in the competition of the American Association of Teachers of playing stringed instruments, held in North Carolina. Then
Koptev was invited to occupy the post of principal violist and soloist of North Carolina School of the Arts on its European tour. In 1996-1997. He advocates a soloist in concerts in France, Germany and Spain.
In 1998.
Alex Koptev received a grant to study at the School of Music at Indiana University.
He is fond of the theater (his mother was an actress), football and swimming in the lakes.
