Biography Afonin Matvei
Upon completing high school at Moscow University, was sent in 1758, first in KцІnigsberg, then in Uppsala University, where he studied under the guidance of Linnaeus. In 1770, won just established at Moscow State University Department of Natural History (taught zoology, botany and mineralogy). At the same he was charged with the teaching of agriculture, a subject in Russia completely new. In 1777 he left, sickness, professorship. The rest of his life in the Crimea, where he obtained land and engaged in agronomic experiments; of them are news in "Proceedings of the Free Economic Society". His works: "De usu Historiae Naturalis in vita communi" (1766), . "The benefits, . knowledge, . collection and disposition of chernozem, . especially in corn-growing "(speech, . read in a solemn meeting of the Moscow University, April 22, 1771) and two words of praise Catherine II, . He died in 1810.
