Biography Beckenstein, Johannes Simon
was in 1725, Mr.. called from Konigsberg, where was an assistant professor, and made a professor of Jurisprudence at the Academy of Sciences. He stayed in Russia for about 10 years, before returning back to Konigsberg, and died there in early 1740-ies. Straightforward Bekenstein not particularly liked the service at the academy, which at that time were engaged in clerical matters more than the interests of science. It also did not like him and that he was forced to take part in various political persecution, like the trial of former vice-president of the College of Commerce Fikom involved in the well-known attempt to limit the sovereignty of the supreme. For all that, his academic speech: "Sermo panegyricus in solemni Academiae Scientiarum Imperialis Conventu die V Mai anni MDCCXXXI publice recitatus" (St. Petersburg, . 1731) - is an enthusiastic apology for autocracy and full of disapproving hints at those, . who tried to introduce into Russia oligarchy, . Beckenstein published (1727) more welcoming verses Peter II on the occasion of the betrothal of his daughter Menshikov, and to educate the young emperor heraldry issued: "Kurze Einleitung zur Wappen-Kunst" (St. Petersburg, 1731).
