Biography Gregory the Illuminator
born about 257 g. During the Persian occupation of Armenia, Apac, bribed by the Persian king, had killed the Armenian king Khosroev and for this was put to death himself with all his family. Saved only by his younger son, who was taken to Cappadocia, and there baptized with the name of Gregory. Being married, he soon parted with his wife, retired to a monastery, while he himself went to Rome, where he was the son Khosroyev, Tiridates and entered his service. Gregory returned to his homeland with Tiridates won in 282 g. father's kingdom. Gregory Tiridates subjected to persecution because he converted to Christianity and, after the story is not quite accurate, kept him in prison 14 years. But then Gregory converted to Christianity of the king and the whole country and the Archbishop of Caesarea, he was ordained a bishop of Armenia. In 318 g. he retired to rest, passing the chair to his son, and the rest of his days he lived as a hermit. The Life of Gregory of our Saints September 30. Criticisms cm.
