Biography Asan-AND-DIES Manuel
(1880-1940) Born January 10, 1880 in the town of Alcala de Henares (New Castile). He was educated at College of the Augustinians in El Escorial. He is famous in literary circles in Spain, and in 1930 headed the Athenaeum in Madrid. Azana organized the Republican Party actions, which helped overthrow of King Alfonso XIII, in the formed April 14, 1931 the provisional government of Prime Minister A. Zamora took the post of Minister of War. Initiated movement to limit the power of the church and the dissolution of the Jesuit Order. In October 1931 A. Zamora was replaced as prime minister. In December 1931 the first election after the adoption of a republican constitution A. Zamora became president of the country, and Azana remained Prime Minister. Under pressure from conservative forces in September 1933 Azana filed in ostavku. He was charged that in 1934 he took part in the unrest the miners of Asturias and the nationalists in Catalonia and in the organization Levorespublikanskoy Party, which has distanced itself from the Government A. Zamora. In October 1934 Azana was arrested and tried. In 1935 became leader of the Popular Front in bringing victory in elections in February 1936. As prime minister, Asan refused reconciliation with President A. Zamora and shifted his May 10, 1936. In July, the civil war began, and soon the new Government was formed. In February 1939 Azana requested political asylum in Paris, and after the recognition of the Franco regime by Britain and France 1 May 1939 resignation of President. Died Asan-and-Dies in Montauban (France) 4 November 1940.
