Born January 10, 1880 in the town of Alcala de Henares (New Castile). He was educated at College of the Augustinians in El Escorial. He is famous in literary circles in Spain, and in 1930 headed the Athenaeum in Madrid. Azana organized the Republican Party actions, which helped overthrow of King Alfonso XIII, in the formed April 14, 1931 the provisional government of Prime Minister A. Zamora took the post of Minister of War. Initiated movement to limit the power of the church and the dissolution of the Jesuit Order. In October 1931 A. Zamora was replaced as prime minister.
