Biography Robert Burton (Burton Robert)
(1577-1640) Born February 8, 1577 in Lindley (Leicestershire). In 1593, after studying in schools Sutton Coldfield and Nuneaton (Warwickshire County), entered Breyznoz College, University of Oxford, in 1599 was elected a Fellow of Christ Church College. In 1602, Burton received his BA in 1605 - Masters, in 1616 - Bachelor of Theology, he worked in the college tutor and librarian. In Christ Church led a life of reclusive scientist, devoting himself to practicing medicine, mathematics, astrology and geography. The first was a remarkable piece of Burton comedy philosophaster (Philosophaster), written in Latin in 1606 and set eleven years later, in Christ Church. There are literally work his whole life was Anatomy of melancholy (The Anatomy of Melancholy); its first edition in 1621. Anatomy of melancholy - a comprehensive, systematic review thoroughly information on the melancholy, drawn from all available sources - both old and new.
Burton died in his apartment in Christ Church College on Jan. 25, 1640.
