(ca. 1475 or 1485/1486 - 1540 or 1541) Jean Clouet the Younger and his son Francois are the greatest masters of the French school of court portraits 16. Perhaps the Clouet family comes from the Netherlands, where the name was circulated in the late 15 in. Jean Clouet the Younger - the son of painter Jean Clouet the Elder (the mind. app. 1500), sometimes identified with Mulenskim master. He arrived in France during the reign of Louis XII, in 1516 became one of the court painters of Francis I, and later was appointed chief painter of the King. Jean Clouet worked in Tours and Paris. Works written by him have survived, but in the Conde Museum at Chantilly is ok. 130 portraits of the court, which can be attributed to him with a high probability. Works of Jean Clouet laid the foundation of the French Renaissance tradition of portraiture.
The son of Jean Clouet - Franцїois (between 1505 and 1510, or about. 1522-1572) inherited his father's position at the French court and enjoyed great fame during the reign of Henry II, Francis II and Charles IX. His work - one of the peaks of the French Renaissance. He painted portraits and miniatures, compositions on mythological subjects. Francois Clouet led large workshop, where they produced copies of portraits created. This has contributed to the dissemination of art masters throughout Europe.
