Biography Constanta Fl Valery
(ca. 250-306) (or Constantius I Chlorine) Often-used nickname Chlorine (Greek. 'pale') appears only in the later Byzantine sources. The origin and initial career Constance little known, especially since they were deliberately obscured perpetrated later attempts to make Constantine the Great in a relative of the Emperor Claudius Gotha. Constantius was born in Illyria, perhaps in a peasant family, and made a military career under the emperor Maximian. First wife Elena (Concubine) gave birth to Constantine, the future emperor. Ok. 289 Constantius left her and married Theodora, stepdaughter of Maximian, co-ruler of Emperor Diocletian. In 293 Maximian Constantius fathered and made him Caesar (ie. junior emperor).
