Biography Vojislav Kostunica (Kostunica Vojislav)
(p. 1944) Born in Belgrade on March 24, 1944. He graduated from Belgrade University, Doctor of Laws. From 1970 he worked in the University of Belgrade, in 1974, was fired. He worked as an editor of a number of legal and philosophical journals, was the director of the Institute of Philosophy and Social Theory. In 1989 he returned to the University of Belgrade for the post of Professor. One of the founders of the opposition Democratic Party of Yugoslavia, the leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia from 1992. In 1992-1997 member of parliament of Serbia. In the early summer of 2000 became a candidate for the presidency of Yugoslavia from the democratic bloc, combining democracy with a 'national idea'. When the election results were announced Sept. 24 that established the victory of Slobodan Milosevic and the need for the second round, the supporters of Kostunica said that these results are rigged, and on the streets of Belgrade riots broke out. As a result, the side of the opposition crossed the federal and republican authorities, who took to the streets, demonstrators seized the television and the building of some newspapers. The call for Milosevic to resign his post called British Prime Minister Blair and French President Jacques Chirac, U.S. President Bill Clinton spoke in support of the demonstrators. Kostunica took over as president on Oct. 7, 2000. Despite the fact that during the election campaign, Kostunica said non-extradition of Milosevic to the Hague Tribunal, the former Yugoslav president nonetheless was extradited in July 2001
