Biography MACHEL Zamora Moses (Machel Samora Moses)
(1933-1986) Born in October 1933 in the southern Mozambican Shangaan. He graduated from the four classes of primary school, briefly attended high school. Prior to 1963 he worked in a hospital of Maputo. In 1963 Machel traveled to Tanzania and then was sent to Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) in Algeria for training in guerrilla warfare. Returning to Tanzania, Machel, FRELIMO established the first camp for training militants. In 1966 Machel became secretary of Frelimo Defense, and in 1968 Chief of Army. Once in 1969, was killed Eduardo Mondlane, Machel, Uriah Simango and Marsilinu dos Santos took over management of FRELIMO. In 1970 Machel became the leader of FRELIMO. When the Soviet and Chinese military assistance to FRELIMO managed by 1973 to establish control over part of the territory of northern Mozambique, in 1974 over central Mozambique. In April to power in Portugal has come a new government, which decided to withdraw from Mozambique. In 1975 Machel became president of independent Mozambique. Machel government nationalized the land, almost all trade and industry, encouraged the departure from the country's white settlers. Machel died in a plane crash Oct. 19, 1986.
