Biography Saint-Simon Louis de (Saint-Simon Louis de)
Born January 16, 1675 in Versailles. His family name - de Ruvrua (de Rouvroy). Like his father, a favorite of Louis XIII, decided to make a career at court. In 1691 at the age of sixteen entered the army a simple soldier, a year later bought the patent officer. He participated in several military campaigns of Louis XIV, but have not received the expected increase and resigned from the firm conviction that a victim of injustice. In the courtyard, he thoughtfully and critically surveyed Versailles events and customs. In 1721 he was appointed ambassador to the special powers under the Madrid court. The death in 1723 of Philippe d'Orleans, regent for minor Louis XV, put an end to the diplomatic career of Saint-Simon and hopes to regain the influence of his family affairs of state. The rest of life - more than thirty years - he spent in the family castle Fertе- and in his Paris mansion, completely devoting himself to the creation Memoirs. Saint-Simon died in Paris on March 2, 1755.
Memoirs (Mmoires, publ. Part 1788-1789, 1829-1831 completely in 21 min.) represent one of the richest sources for the history of the reign of Louis XIV. Saint-Simon began recording his impressions since 1694. Due to friendly relations with many influential people and longstanding permanent stay of the court he had the opportunity to obtain first hand information, . and acute acumen enabled him to guess the hidden motives of human actions,
. Despite the support of high patrons, his career had not worked - so it is often biased, distorted the facts and judge people depending on their attitude toward them. However, no one writer could not create a more lively and psychologically accurate picture of the era. His book is replete with grammatical errors and stylistic flaws, but together with the different power and a sharp sense of life
