Biography Thompson John (Thompson John Sparrow David)
(1845-1894) Born in Halifax, Nov. 10, 1845. He was admitted to the practice of law in Nova Scotia in 1865, and in 1871 was elected Alderman in Halifax, in the same year became a member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was elected to the Assembly of Nova Scotia, in 1878-1882 served as Attorney General of Nova Scotia during the reign of the liberal conservatives led by S. Holmes. After the death of the latter was acting prime minister, but was defeated in the elections of 1882 and was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia. In 1885 he was appointed Minister of Justice in the cabinet Dzh.Makdonalda and was elected to the Parliament of the Dominion of Antigonish County on the list of liberal conservatives. Became Prime Minister in 1892 after the death of Macdonald in 1891 and ostavki Abbot in 1892. Thompson's main achievements were an agreement on fishing between Britain and the USA (1888) and the adoption of the Criminal Code of Canada (1892). In 1888, Thompson was elevated to the noble rank. Thompson died in Windsor (UK) 12 December 1894.
