Biography Kirsten Flagstad (Flagstad Kirsten)
(1895-1962) Born July 12, 1895 in Hamar (Norway). She studied singing at Ellen Skyutte-Jacobsen and debuted at the opera in Oslo in 1913. Appeared on stage in New York 'Metropolitan Opera' in Wagner's Valkyries (1935). From 1935 to 1941 played a major role in the revival of Wagner repertoire in the 'Metropolitan Opera', a beautiful voice, combined with excellent vocal technique and outstanding musicianship allowed the singer to speak a lot, not only on stage, . but also in concerts: Flagstad was equally convincing in the opera fragments, . and in chamber music, . The fact that the singer during the Second World War, remained in German-occupied Norway and later served as the reason for the suspicion of its collaboration with the Nazis, but in 1949 these charges were found groundless. In 1953 she gave her farewell concert in London, but then did not leave a musical work, directed the theater 'Norwegian Opera' and helped young musicians. Flagstad died in Oslo on December 7, 1962.
