Biography CHELGREN Johan Henrik (Kellgren Johan Henrik)
(1751-1795) Born Dec. 1, 1751 in the province Vesteryetland; studied at the University of ц?bo (now Turku) in Finland, which by then was part of Sweden. He returned to Stockholm in 1777 and soon became known in literary circles in the Swedish capital. Chelgren was an outstanding representative of the Enlightenment. He appealed to the genre of withering satire in the writings of my ridicule (Mina ljen, 1778), not a genius, because the insane (Man ger ej snille fr det man r galen, 1788) and Enemies of light (Ljusets fiender, 1792). Late lyrics, created under the influence of English literature, was published in books Christine (Till Kristina, 1789) and the New Creation (Den nya skapelsen, 1790). Chelgren was the first director of the Swedish Academy, founded in 1786. Chelgren died in Stockholm on April 20, 1795.
