Konstantin Khabensky

Konstantin Khabensky (born January 11 1972) is a Russian actor best known in the West for starring in the films Night Watch and Day Watch as the lead character Anton Gorodetsky.

Then: nursery, kindergarten, school. In the first class Konstantin and his family moved to Nizhnevartovsk city, where he spent 4 years in very severe conditions. In 1985 - he returned to Leningrad.

Khabensky finished 8 classes, and continued his studies at the College of Aviation Instrumentation and Automation. After 3 courses, he left, realizing that technical education was not for him. He worked as floor polisher, janitor, street musician, fitter in the theater-studio "Saturday".

In 1990 he entered the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography, studio of V. Filshtinsky (he is one of the best artists, his studio is one of the best in the country). During the years of studying Konstantin played a number of major roles: Lomov in vaudeville "Chekhov's Jokes", a number of roles in the production of "Time Vysotsky, rope-walker Matto in "Road" by Fellini, Chebutykin in "Three Sisters" by Chekhov. Final work - Estragon (Gogo), staged by Y.Butusov "Waiting for Godo".

In 1994, received his first film role: an episode in the film "To whom God would send."

In 1995 and 1996 worked in the Experimental Theater "Crossroads" (Palace of Culture of the 1st Five-Year Plan) and the regional TV as the leading manager of department of music and informational programs.

In 1996, the actor played in the Satirilon Moscow Theater, in performances "The Threepenny Opera" and "Cyrano de Bergerac", as well as in filming of a controversial picture of A.Herman "Khrustalev, the car!".

In 1997 there were the shootings of two films: by the Hungarian director Tomas Toot in the film "Natasha" and "Home for the rich" (director - Fokin). He continued working in the theater, now in Lensoveta Theatre (St. Petersburg) in the production "Woyzeck" by K.Bjuhner.

1998 - vivid roles in the movies: "A fan" by Lebedev and "Women's Property" by D.Meshiev. For the role in the last film Khabensky was awarded a prize in the category "Best Actor" at the Gatchina film festival "Literature and Cinema". In the theater he faced the main role in the premiere of "Caligula".

Also in 1998, the actor got acquainted with a young journalist Anastasia. He invited her to the play "Caligula". The girl did not react to the proposal seriously, but went to the theater. Konstantin's talent struck his new acquaintance, and it radically changed her view of him. Soon the pair began to live together. Then both admitted that it was love at first sight.

In 1999, Khabensky started shooting the series "Lethal force", Konstantin has participated in the painting scenario by A.Rogozhkin "Peculiarities of national policy".
2000 - two performances in the theater: "The Bug" (multiple roles) and "Let's wait and see" (dentist Valentine). Participation in the TV series "Agent of National Security" and "Empire under attack", also continue shooting "lethal force".

2001 - work in the new picture by Meshiev "Mechanical suite", rehearsals in the Lensovet Theater. Fall - work in the movie "Moving" (directorial debut of F. Jankowski). Khabensky started working in new series of S.Snezhkin. In December - debut of the play "Tarelkin's Death".

When Konstantin moved from St. Petersburg to Moscow, his wife followed him. A few years later Nastia realized that she was going to be mother. During pregnancy, Anastasia learned about the growing tumor in her brain. For a long time. According to some reports, the cause of the tumor could become microinsult. Anastasia refused to be treated seriously: potent drugs could be harmful for the child. Vanya was born Sept. 25, 2007 by Caesarean section.

Anastasia felt worse and she was intensively treated. Then at the Institute of Burdenko she removed the tumor and was appointed a course of chemotherapy. After the first surgery Anastasia and Konstantin were married.

Two months after the operation the tumor "was back". Last six months Anastasia Khabenskaja was treated in one of the best clinics in Los Angeles. Konstantin tried to spend as much time as possible with his wife. He always flew to America but returned to Russia to earn money for expensive treatment. U.S. doctors tried some of the most progressive methods of treatment, but the desired result was not achieved. On 4 December 2008 Anastasia Khabenskaja died in the hands of her mother, who was always close to daughter. Anastasia was 34 years old.

Khabensky now resides in Moscow. Khabensky was already a popular and well-established theatre and television/film actor prior to appearing in the -Watch films. However, their unprecedented success in both Russia and worldwide has made Khabensky the most popular actor in Russia, and one of the best-known Russian actors in the West.

Khabensky has been a stage actor in Satyricon Theatre (Moscow) and Lensovet Theatre in Saint Petersburg. Since 2003, Khabensky has been a member of Moscow Art Theatre stage cast, and a lead actor in Duck Hunt (Zilov), White Guard (Alexey Turbin) and Hamlet.
