Soviet soldiers in many places, crossed the Dnieper on the move and seized a bridgehead on the west bank of the river. But in some parts of our units were not immediately available to cross. They stopped in front of the Dnieper and the troops of the 65 th Army, including the regiment, which served Krasilnikov, although the experience of crossing the large and small rivers of the fighters was a great. Behind were Desna, again, Sozh and dozens of smaller rivers. All of them were resolved without delay. Before the Dnieper same part of the stop because the forces of fighters exhausted long marches through forests and swamps. There was no ammunition and fuel. Because of bad roads the rear did not keep up with rapidly advancing units. We had to give soldiers a break, move up the artillery and baggage.
Almost two weeks preparing for the soldiers to force the Dnieper. They built rafts and ferries, repairing fishing boats, weapons, ammunition stocked, conducted reconnaissance of the enemy. At dawn on October 15 Krasil'nikova company began speeding up the river. The Germans, as usual, were harassing fire from machine guns and roving guns, rockets lit up the shore, occasionally producing fire raids on alleged plots to force.
. Quietly floating rafts and boats, the men carefully looked into the darkness of the night
. But, no matter how careful were our soldiers, enemy observers still saw paratroopers. Fire unseen forces attacked ferried company. Two boats floated near Krasilnikov, were defeated by a direct hit. Soldiers killed. In the next moment the boat was thrown to the side Krasilnikova. Once in the water, six of the men swam to shore, taking with him a gun and boxes with ribbons. They successfully overcame the 100-meter strip of ice water, and clambered to shore, set up a machine gun on the hill, straight hit on the Nazis. The Nazis began to carry on the brave fire from three machine guns. Those killed were the commander of the calculation, gunner and two soldiers. Krasilnikov lay behind the machine gun and began to fend off the enemy. When run out of bullets, two brave men who fought with hand grenades, and then captured an enemy machine gun fire along the trench and killed three dozen Nazi. Braves hold the bridgehead.
