Hortensius, Quintus; Hortensius Hortalus, Quintus, 114-50 gg. BC. e., Roman orator. In 75 g. was aediles, 72 g. - Praetor in 69 g. - Consul. The policy has some very conservative views. Even in the age of 19 i.i. gained universal acceptance, defending the inhabitants of the African province. Admired and imitated him somewhat younger Cicero. Cicero and i.i. performed three times against each other: in 70, in the process Werra, which defended the GG, in 66 g. in the proposal Manilius Pompeii to entrust the command of the war with Mithridates (i.i. objected to this proposal), in 65, the process protected Cicero Gneya Cornelia, when i.i. performed prosecution witness. Later, together with Cicero i.i. defended Gaya Rabiriya (63), the Lutsiliya Muren (63), Publius Sulla (62), the Lutsiliya Flaccus (59), the Publius Cesti (56), the Emilia Skavra (54), the Milo (52 g.). As he i.i. was not only an outstanding representative of azianskogo style in Rome, but along with Cicero - the best orator of the republic. He masterfully build their speech, charming listeners with exquisite metaphors, wordplay and rhythms, taking their pathos.

He was helped in this wonderful memory, and acting skills. He was fascinated above all living word, the less strong impression on his published speeches. According to Cicero, with the age level of presentation by Mr.. G. significantly decreased, but despite this, at the end of life (51), he successfully defended his nephew, Mark Valeria Messalu charged with abuse of office. From the speeches of Mr.. G. preserved only small fragments. I.i. was also the author of unpreserved rhetorical works and Annals probably epic about the so-called war allies. Perhaps, he wrote a small poem. The poet Catullus sent him his translation of the elegy Kallimaha Lock of Berenice.
