Tikhonravov Michael Klavdievich (1900-74) - Soviet designer in the field of rocketry and astronautics, PhD (1958), Honored Scientist of RSFSR (1970), Hero of Socialist Labor (1961). After graduating from the Air Force Academy. N. E. Zhukovsky (1925) worked on a number of aviation enterprises. In 1932 Chief brigade GIRD, since 1934 chief of RNII. Oversaw the creation of the first Soviet rocket engine on a hybrid fuel (1933). Engaged in research of liquid propellant engines, the development of rockets to explore the upper atmosphere, increase the accuracy of firing unguided rockets. Since the mid 1940's, worked on the problems of designing high-altitude rockets. Participated in the creation of the first satellites, spacecraft, interplanetary spacecraft. At the same time led teaching at Moscow Aviation Institute. S. Ordzhonikidze (since 1962 Professor). Corresponding Member of the International Academy of Astronautics (1968). Lenin Prize (1957). Awarded 2 orders of Lenin, 2 orders of the Red Banner, Order of the Patriotic War, 2 nd degree and medals.
