Biography ANTOKOLSKY Paul G.
Antokolsky Paul G. (1896 - 1978), poet, translator. Born on June 19 (July 1 NS) in St. Petersburg in the family lawyer. The main childhood hobby was painting watercolors and colored pencils. In 1904 the family moved to Moscow, where he soon future poet entered a private school. In high school, began his fascination with poetry, drama, recitation. He led to the same hand-written journal. After graduating from high school in 1914, a year later he entered the law faculty of Moscow University, but he was not destined to become a lawyer. His fate decided to classes in the Student Drama Studio, led by E. Vakhtangov. He became an actor, then - until the mid 1930's - a director at the Theater. E. Vakhtangov.

Since the beginning of the revolution he served in the Moscow City Council housing department in order to preserve Studios, which soon turned into a theater of the People by the Stone Bridge. In 1918, traveled with a team of actors on the front line the roads of the Western Front, then served in various Moscow theaters.

In 1920 began to attend "Coffee Poetry" in Tver, where he met with in. Bryusov, who liked poetry Antokolsky, and he published them in the almanac "artistic expression" (1921). The first book "Poems" was published in 1922. During 1920 - 30 published several collections of poetry: "3apad" (1926), "Characters" (1932), "Large distances" (1936), "Pushkin's Year" (1938) and others. During World War II Antokolsky was a correspondent for the front of newspapers, led the theater troupe the front. In 1943 was created the poem "Son", dedicated to the memory of his son, who died at the front.

Creativity P. Antokolsky most fully represented in the books: "Studio" (1958), "High Voltage" (1962), "The Fourth Dimension" (1964), "Time" (1973), "End of the Century" (1977) and others.

Antokolsky owns several articles and books of memoirs: "Poets and Time" (1957), "the poet" (1965), "Tales of Time" (1971).

Antokolsky also known as an excellent translator of French poetry, and poets of Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, etc..

He lived a long life, P. Antokolsky died in 1978 in Moscow.
